The leaders of the Central Ethiopia Regional Agriculture Bureau, as part of their summer volunteer service program, carried out this year's Green Legacy tree planting program in Shinshicho town, Kembata zone.

Ato Usman Surur, the Deputy Head of the Central Ethiopia Regional State Agriculture and Rural Development Cluster Coordinator and Head of the Regional Agriculture Bureau, who attended the program, said that the green legacy movement, which was launched nationwide under the slogan "Planting Hope", is being carried out with special attention and focus in the region.

In his explanation, Ato Usman said that in addition to planting green footprints in the region, it is being developed as a major way to transform natural resources into tangible economic assets, focusing on the successful development of seedlings.

This winter, more than 630 million seedlings were prepared in the region, of which 530 million have been selected for quality and are planned to be planted in the ground. Ato Usman said that so far, 65% to 70% of the planting work has been completed in the region.

Of the seedlings planted in the region, 65% to 70% are fruit (avocado, banana, papaya, jackfruit), coffee, rice, animal feed, and multipurpose tree seeds that are used for food and income generation. This approach has shifted the community from active participation to ownership and is changing the dietary habits and income of citizens, he said.

Ato Usman explained that the Green Legacy work is not just a one-time campaign, but is led by three main movements throughout the year.
